Don’t Tie-Up Heavy Burdens

At one point, the Rev. Dave Barnhart, pastor of St. Junia United Methodist Church, got up next to Henderson (pastor of Believers’ Temple in Brighton) and began to dance, wearing a tie-dyed T-shirt. “It’s pretty cool to see history made,” Barnhart said. “He was getting so loud. I didn’t want people to hear the only words of God being spoken by someone being hateful. I wanted to express my joy and distract from his message. It’s sad when someone can’t rejoice in someone else’s joy. I’m not allowed to officiate (same-sex marriage) because of denominational rules, but there’s no denominational rules against dancing.”
